School Bond For Sierra Unified School District (Tollhouse, Ca)
In June, 2012, voters in the Sierra High School attendence area, including Pine Ridge Elementary, Big Creek Elementary, Foothill Elementary, and Sierra Junior High, will be asked to vote on Measure O.
Measure O proposes a general obligation bond for $5.4 million, which will clear the Foothill campus construction debt from the general fund. This will allow the district to refocus those funds on instruction and programs currently in jeopardy.
As you know, the state’s financial crisis has had a severe impact on our local schools and community. Since the 2006/2007 school year, California has not met its Prop 98 guarantees for school funding, each year by a larger amount. This year, SUSD funding is 20% below our per-student allocation, a reduction of $2.5 million for the 2011/12 school year.
There is no relief in the foreseeable future. We must act locally to invest in the health of our schools. The cost to local homeowners will be an estimated maximum of $35.60 per year per $100,000 assessed value (property tax rate).
The choice we make on election day will have lasting impact in our schools and community. Join us in voting Yes on O:
